Second Baptist School
Prekindergarten at SBS is a half-day program that is designed to create self- motivated, responsible learners within a developmentally appropriate curriculum. It is a program that enhances the spiritual, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child.
Children participate in the opening exercises of the school, where pledges are given to the United States flag, the Christian flag, and the Bible. Learning takes place in large and small groups. In each prekindergarten room, there are five basic learning stations, including home-living, blocks, library, math, and art. The children select a different center each day of the week and spend time in creative play and learning. Rainbow time is circle time where the teacher reads, works on phonemic awareness activities, and has calendar time. Through this approach, children are introduced to readiness activities in math and phonics to prepare them for mathematical operations and reading in kindergarten.
